Faculty of Law

Department of  Jurisprudence and International Law

Message from the HOD

Welcome to the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law (JIL).

The Department is the heart beat of Law because jurisprudence has to do with the knowledge, rational of the law, skills of the law and has international connotations.

The Department is one of the four departments in the Faculty of Law and was created in 2015.

Prospective students are therefore welcome to contact a member of staff or the Department Staff or visit the Department in person to make enquires. Looking forward to a period of an exciting academic journey with every student in the Department.

Jurisprudence, or legal theory, is the theoretical study of the propriety of law. Scholars of jurisprudence seek to explain the nature of law in its most general form and provide a deeper understanding of legal reasoning and analogy, legal systems, legal institutions, and the proper application and role of law in society whilst International law is an independent system of law existing outside the legal orders of particular states. It differs from domestic legal systems in a number of respects.
